Project Long Haul-Ass!

2006 Suzuki V-Strom

The project: Dual Sport ability combined with over the road prowess.

Knowing most dual sport riders want to be able to go off road with their bikes and knowing most off roading means logging roads or mild power line roads we plan to build a dual sport that can offer the best of both worlds with entry level affordability for two up exploration.

Working with the best in the industry we plan to build a monster dual sport that can chew up pavement as well as dirt roads so that the fun doesn’t have to end when the asphalt does.

Every upgrade we plan for "PLHA" will be for the betterment of not only the bike but the rider and passenger. When we built our last project KLR 650 it was for an independent rider who wanted more off road-ability, conversely we want a more street friendly two up rider style bike with some off road manners for those who want to do some back country exploring.

With this in mind our modifications will encompass a two up lifestyle dual purpose motorcycle.

Our mod plans include:

Luggage; what long distance riding bike would be complete with some way to take it all with you?  Happy Trails has us covered.

Windscreen; beating the beating we get will be of utmost importance to get more out of our riding day and Parabellum makes a sweet windscreen to keep us out of the wind.

Tires; our creed is fairly simple, Stock Sucks! So we choose a set of shoes for our steed that will be a mixed bag of street and off road that won’t compromise too much from Maxxis called the Presa Detours.

Brakes; probably one of the most overlooked items when upgrading. After adding more weight and possibly larger/wider tires we will be looking to Galfer to slow us down safely.

Horsepower; I think it goes without saying that everyone wants more power, how do we achieve this and still maintain reliability and possibly better mileage?  DynoJet to the rescue.

Exhaust; what goes in must come out and usually the factory exhaust is quite restrictive, we will be installing a set of Dale Walker Holeshot slip-ons.

We will be building and photographing the installs as both tech and informative testing for our readers. The last project bike we built is here: http://www.dualsportbiketest.com/how_to_section.htm
